
Roy Ben Bashat (RoyE) is a Brooklyn-based guitarist, songwriter, and producer whose creative endeavors channel values of compassion, equanimity, liberation, love, and non-attachment through a wide range of artistic work.
Roy began playing guitar at the age of nine and started writing music at13. Raised in Tel Aviv, he was immersed in a vibrant musical environment from an early age. During high school, he was a recipient of the AICF scholarship, recognizing his achievements at a young age. At 18, he attended Berklee College of Music on a full-tuition scholarship, where he studied guitar, composition, and production, and was awarded the Boston Center for the Arts award during his time there. Roy was selected to participate in The Betty Carter’s Jazz Ahead Program at The Kennedy Center in 2019, where he was mentored by artists such as Jason Moran, Dee Dee Bridgewater, and Greg Hutchinson. Currently, Roy gigs regularly in NYC and across the US, and has performed on some of the world’s most renowned stages, including Smalls Jazz Club, The Jazz Gallery, NYC JazzFest, Red Sea Jazz Festival, Webster Hall, The Kennedy Center, and Palladium Times Square. He has worked with prominent bandleaders and artists such as Luis Perdomo, Brian Newman, Noah Preminger, Stephane Mgebrishvili, Lex Korten, Mimi Jones, and Tia Fuller.
As a producer, Roy began developing his practice during his time at Berklee, collaborating with fellow students and interning at studios including Studio G in Brooklyn, Bentley House Studios in Manhattan, and LonePine in Berlin. He now runs his own studio - 'Astral Sound Studios', in East Williamsburg, Brooklyn, where he works with artists such as Sarah Michelle Lee, The Bedroomer, Angelina Miers, Lena Kutscher, and PAULA T.
As a songwriter, Roy performs under the name RoyE. His latest project, Songs from Self Retreat (released March 2026), was created during a month-long solo retreat in the summer of 2022. .Immersed in meditation, study, and poetry, he created a collection of songs that blend philosophical, Rumi-inspired lyrics with unique sonic landscapes, intricate production, and expressive guitar work.
